2020 Monuments & Canyons Artist: Mark Akins

Mark Akins, a 3rd generation Coloradan, is a member of the Plein Air Artists of Colorado, Plein Air Painters of New Mexico and the Outdoor Painters Society (Texas).
“My hope is that upon viewing one of my pieces, a memory is kindled, an emotion touched, or you simply wish you could have been at the time and location I have attempted to capture on canvas. I try to paint with quick, purposeful strokes to capture the spontaneity of the moment.” The best compliment is when he hears a patron remark, “In Mark’s paintings I can feel the time of day and tell where the light is coming from.”

Mark has won Best in Show, 1st Place, 2nd Place, People’s Choice, Award of Merit, Patron’s Purchase, multiple Quick Draw, and Honorable Mention awards. Mark’s paintings are in numerous public and private collections. Colorado Mesa University recently purchased three major studio paintings for their new Health Science Building, and three pieces were purchased by and are permanent installations at the Littleton Adventist Hospital.
