SUMMARY:Desert Bracelet Workshop: Full Moon Evening
DESCRIPTION:Join Lynnea from DarcMoon for a special mala bracelet workshop at Devils Kitchen Picnic Shelter during the full moon. As the sunsets and the moon rises\, we’ll gather outside to create intentional\, handmade bracelets using gemstones. This relaxed\, beginner-friendly workshop offers space to slow down\, be creative and connect with the desert. \nDarcMoon is the creative vision of Lynnea\, an artist and jewelry maker based in Grand Junction\, CO since 2016. Named during her travels\, DarcMoon reflects Lynnea’s adventurous spirit and unique approach to creativity. SUMMARY:Investigating Insects in the Monument
DESCRIPTION:Ranger Raven holding a grub from the Amazon Rainforest.\n  \nJoin Ranger Raven for an engaging and educational presentation exploring what insects are\, how to identify them\, and learn some of the fascinating insect species found right here in the Monument! \nRanger Raven Patrick completed a Bachelor’s in Biology from CMU back in 2023\, where her work took her all the way from Alaska to the Amazon Rainforest. Recently\, she completed a Master’s in Entomology from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. When she’s not out looking for bugs\, she spends her free time hanging out at home with her fiancé and two dogs while watching movies\, creating 3D models\, and selling sourdough bread. \nMonument on Tap is a CNMA lecture series that takes the learning out of the park and into the community—supporting local voices\, shared knowledge\, and meaningful connection.  \nDetails:    \n\nDate: Monday 6:00pm- 7:30pm\n\n\nTime: Arrive at 6:00 PM to grab food and a beverage. SUMMARY:Nocturne Art at the Monument
DESCRIPTION:Join local artist\, Cedar Keshet for an evening of exploring nocturne art and sky gazing at Saddlehorn Picnic Area parking lot. A moonlit night can bring peaceful quiet and mystery. Both feelings are evoked in nocturnes\, or paintings depicting nightfall lit by the moon\, stars and lamplight.     \nWe’ll be creating simple nocturne artwork with supplies provided by our artist\, Cedar Keshet. No previous art skills are required\, just a willingness to have fun and try a new activity. If you would like to make a donation to Cedar for her art supplies\, please Venmo her @PleinAirCedar . \nIt will be the New Moon on the 23rd of August which will provide perfectly dark skies—ideal for stargazing! We’ll be sharing our space with the National Park Service’s Night Sky Program\, so come ready to explore the wonders of the night sky through expert-led activities\, telescope viewing\, and more. Please park on the far east side of the parking lot to reduce light pollution.  \nDetails:   \n\nDate : August 23rd\nTime: 7:30 pm- 10:00 pm\n\n\nLocation: Saddlehorn Picnic Area  parking lot. DESCRIPTION:The National Park Service (NPS) was established on August 25\, 1916 and celebrates its birthday on this date each year. This year\, 2025\, marks the 109th anniversary of the NPS.  \nJoin Terri Ahern as she shares her passion\, history and knowledge of Colorado National Monument’s beautiful landscape through photos and storytelling.  \nTerri and her husband\, Rick\, moved to the “best slope” in 2000 after falling in love with the high desert canyon country. She has been a volunteer at Colorado National Monument since April 2006 as a trail ambassador\, and assists with special projects in the Cultural & Natural Resources Division and enjoys the annual Desert Bighorn Sheep Count.  \nRSVPs not required – Park pass required for entrance to the park.  \n \n
