DESCRIPTION: Join microbiologist Cindy Carlson for an engaging and educational presentation exploring the incredible world of lichens. Lichens are a fascinating and complex life form — a symbiotic partnership between a fungus and an alga\, thriving together in some of the planet’s harshest environments.  \nAs part of our Monument on Tap series\, Cindy will share her deep knowledge and a hands-on look at her personal lichen specimen collection. Whether you’re a curious beginner or a seasoned naturalist\, this event will leave you with a newfound appreciation for these often-overlooked organisms.  \nCindy and her husband\, Stan\, have called Grand Junction home for over forty years. A former microbiologist at St. Mary’s Hospital\, Cindy’s interest in plants began while Stan was off fishing—and eventually grew into a passion for lichens.
