DESCRIPTION:Please join us for Monument on Tap: “This Land Is Your Land; This Land Is My Land” with Ken Mabery in celebration of National Public Lands Day!  \nCome explore the history\, meaning\, and stories behind the public lands we all share—and celebrate why these places matter to all of us.  \nKen Mabery is a retired National Park Service leader with more than 40 years of experience across 14 NPS units\, including serving as Superintendent at Colorado National Monument. With degrees in geology and international relations\, Ken has dedicated his career to public lands\, conservation\, and international park partnerships. He and his wife\, Jeannie\, enjoy exploring the Grand Valley and supporting the community through several local boards\, including\, Colorado National Monument Association (CNMA).   \nMonument on Tap is a CNMA lecture series that takes the learning out of the park and into the community—supporting local voices\, shared knowledge\, and meaningful connections.  \nPlease help support CNMA! SUMMARY:Biology Hike in Echo Canyon
DESCRIPTION:Park volunteer\, Tim Beagley\, will lead a hike through Echo Canyon to survey the living organisms that dwell in high desert canyons.   \nThe high desert canyons of Colorado National Monument present a harsh environment where living things seem very creative in meeting the requirements of life.  \nDuring the hike we’ll look for and discuss plants\, animals and even microscopic forms of life. Hikers will learn how they acquire water and energy. They will also see how living things get the building materials (atoms and molecules) of life. Finally\, the group will see how living things cooperate in communities to form habitats where they can exist.  \nDr. Beagley earned a PhD in Biology studying the molecular evolution and interactions of animals that make up coral reefs.  \nDetails:  \n\nDate & Time: Thursday\, October 15th 10:30 am- 2:00 pm\n\n\nLocation: We will meet at Devil’s Kitchen Picnic Shelter. \n\n\nRegistration: Risk forms must be signed prior to beginning the hike. You must have a RSVP to attend this hike.\n\n\nDistance: 3.2 miles roundtrip\, plan for a three hour\, moderate hike. \n\n\nBring: Water\, snacks\, layers and lunch if needed. \n\n\nNote: Hike may be cancelled or postponed due to weather. Park passes are required.
