SUMMARY:Lichens 101: Life on the Edge
DESCRIPTION: Join microbiologist Cindy Carlson for an engaging and educational presentation exploring the incredible world of lichens. Lichens are a fascinating and complex life form — a symbiotic partnership between a fungus and an alga\, thriving together in some of the planet’s harshest environments.  \nAs part of our Monument on Tap series\, Cindy will share her deep knowledge and a hands-on look at her personal lichen specimen collection. Whether you’re a curious beginner or a seasoned naturalist\, this event will leave you with a newfound appreciation for these often-overlooked organisms.  \nCindy and her husband\, Stan\, have called Grand Junction home for over forty years. A former microbiologist at St. Mary’s Hospital\, Cindy’s interest in plants began while Stan was off fishing—and eventually grew into a passion for lichens. For more than thirty years\, she has been studying and collecting these extraordinary organisms. \nMonument on Tap is a CNMA lecture series that takes the learning out of the park and into the community—supporting local voices\, shared knowledge\, and meaningful connection. \nDetails:   \n\nDate: Saturday\, July 26th\, 2025\n\n\nTime: Arrive at 11:00 AM to grab food and a beverage. Lecture will start at 11:30 AM\n\n\nLocation: Base Camp Provisions- 155 N Mulberry Street Fruita\, CO\n\n\nRegistration: Please make an RSVP for each attendee.\n\n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Bats on Tap!
DESCRIPTION:Dan Neubaum\, Wildlife Conservation Biologist with Colorado Parks & Wildlife\, will share his knowledge and the latest data on white-nose syndrome in Colorado\, as well as recent radiotracking work conducted at COLM to investigate fall roost use and discuss how Colorado bats use rock crevices of many shapes and sizes as roosts\, why they like them\, and what we continue to learn. \nDan grew up in Pueblo and earned his B.S. and M.S. in Wildlife Biology from Colorado State University\, focusing on the ecology of bats. After fieldwork across the western U.S. and Australia and eight years with the USGS\, he has spent the past 17 years with Colorado Parks and Wildlife in Grand Junction as a Wildlife Conservation Biologist and Program Manager.
