SUMMARY:Flash Flooding in the Colorado National Monument
DESCRIPTION:Dramatic thunderstorms and flash floods are nothing new in the Colorado National Monument. In 1978\, a powerful storm sent a surge through No Thoroughfare Canyon that briefly exceeded the flow of the Colorado River and washed out a bridge on Monument Road. Gigi will share historic photos and accounts of major floods from 1921 to 2010\, along with a short discussion of recent thunderstorms and the high flows they produced.  \nGigi Richard is a water scientist and civil engineer with 20+ years of experience studying rivers and watersheds across the West. She has taught at CMU and Fort Lewis College\, helped found regional water centers\, and serves on two water-related boards. She loves gardening\, cooking\, and exploring the Southwest.  \nWe are very excited to partner with Colorado Craft Coffee and Beer House.  For our event\, they have graciously offered 15% off all beverages for CNMA members. They do not have food on the menu\, but all outside food is allowed\, so please feel free to bring your dinner with you! There is some parking in the front and the sides of the building\, but we are allowed to park in the Jimmy John’s parking lot as well.   \nDetails:       \n\nDate: Thursday\, December 18th\,  6:00 pm-7:30 pm  \n\n\nTime: Arrive at 6:00 PM to order a beverage. Lecture will start at 6:30 PM    \n\n\nLocation: Colorado Craft Coffee and Beer House- 1144 N. 12th Street\, Grand Jct.\, CO  \n\n\nRegistration: Please make an RSVP for each attendee.
