SUMMARY:Birding the Rimrock of Colorado National Monument 
DESCRIPTION:Join birder and Grand Valley Audubon board member Cary Atwood in listening for and identifying some of the common resident and migratory birds of the Pinyon-Juniper woodlands. We will walk the Alcove Nature Trail and the Canyon Rim trail as the sound and activity of spring birds resonates everywhere. Some of the common birds we might see are: Pinyon Jay\, Woodhouse’s Scrub Jay\, Spotted Towhee\, Black-throated Sparrow\, Common Raven\, White-Throated Swift\, Canyon Wren\, Violet Green Swallow\, Red-tailed Hawk\, and a Turkey Vulture.  \n\n\n\nCary is a longtime resident of Grand Junction and a former teacher who enjoys the many dimensions of the Grand Valley. She is a hiker\, cyclist\, birder\, and adventurer in the Four Corners region. \n\n\n\nDetails:   \n\n\n\n\nDate & Time: Saturday\, May 16th\, 2026\, 7:45 am\n\n\n\n\n\nLocation: We will meet at the Saddlehorn Visitor Center\n\n\n\n\n\nRegistration: Risk forms must be signed prior to beginning the hike.\n\n\n\nCost: Free and open to all – no payment required to participate. Optional Support: If you’d like to support CNMA programming like this\, we suggest a donation of $10 – this is completely optional. Donate Here. \n\n\n\n\n\nDistance: Approximately 2 mile easy hikes- Plan for two hours. \n\n\n\n\n\nBring: Binoculars\, water\, snacks\, layers\, hat\, and sunscreen. \n\n\n\n\n\nNote: Hike may be cancelled or postponed due to weather. DESCRIPTION:We’re excited to feature Cedar Keshet as our May artist. Stop by the Visitor Center to meet Cedar as she works on a unique piece of art\, which will be donated to CNMA and auctioned to support the National Park Service.  \n\n\n\nCedar Keshet was raised in the desert of southern New Mexico\, where riding horses and sketching the landscape shaped her deep connection to the land. SUMMARY:Desert Mala Necklace Workshop
DESCRIPTION:In this four-hour workshop\, Lynnea of DarcMoon will guide you through the process of setting intentions and hand-tying them into your own 108-bead mala necklace. With more than 20 types of gemstones to choose from\, you’ll create a piece that is both meaningful and uniquely yours.  \nHeld just before the Strawberry Full Moon and the Summer Solstice\, this workshop offers a perfect opportunity to harness seasonal energy and set intentions for the months ahead.
