Safety Tips

Colorado National Monument is beautiful in all seasons and we want to make sure that all who visit here stay safe. Here are some good safety tips to follow:

  • Wear sunscreen, even in Winter.
  • Bring a hat.
  • Drink water – lots of it! Come prepared with reusable water bottles and/or camelbaks.  There are bottle filling stations, and reusable water bottles for sale, but bottled water is not sold at the visitor center.
  • Insect repellent – the gnats can be fierce from May to August.
  • Sturdy shoes are important if you plan to do any hiking. Trails can be sandy in the summer and snowy & icy in the winter. Call us at the visitor center (970.858.3617 ext. 360) for current conditions.

Visit the monument’s website, here, for more tips on staying safe in our rugged landscape.
