This geological marvel\, like a time capsule\, preserves the story of climate change\, ancient environments\, and the evolution of life. \nJoin Roger Smith\, a recently retired geologist and CNMA volunteer\, and Don Regan\, a retired energy industry geologist\, former COLM park ranger and longtime CNMA volunteer for an awe-inspiring day on the monument. \nHike details: \n\n\n\nMeet at the Upper Monument Canyon Trailhead at 9:00 am; risk forms must be signed upon registration.\nFrom Saddlehorn Visitor Center\, turn left onto Rim Rock Drive and proceed 3.8 miles (6.1 km) to the trailhead on the left.\nApproximately 3 miles\, with 1\,000 feet of elevation gain. Plan for a 3-hour strenuous hike – hiking poles and hiking shoes are recommended.\nBring water\, snacks\, layers and lunch if needed.\nHike may be cancelled or postponed if there is rain or weather within 24 hours of start time.
