Join Ken Mabery for a look at the history of Colorado National Monument. He’ll start with the monument’s geology, touch on Native American history, and then dive into how it was established in 1911 and how it has evolved over time. The talk wraps up with a look at the challenges and opportunities facing the monument today and in the years ahead.
Ken Mabery is a retired National Park Service professional with over 40 years of experience, including 20 years as a Park Manager/Superintendent. He served in 14 park units, regional offices, and NPS headquarters, and retired at Colorado National Monument. Ken holds degrees in Geology and International Relations and now lives in the Grand Valley with his wife, Jeannie, where he enjoys exploring the outdoors and serving on several boards, including the Colorado National Monument Association.
Monument on Tap is a CNMA lecture series that takes the learning out of the park and into the community—supporting local voices, shared knowledge, and meaningful connection.
